In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re proud to share a story from Kamila and Helen in our Quality team, one that perfectly captures the FRP spirit of connection, compassion, and community.
Before “Team Ketchup” became a company-wide staple, it started life as something quite simple: a monthly get-together among our Quality and Logistics team, bringing everyone together over a McDonald’s breakfast to “ketchup” on life and work. It was a chance to pause, talk, and share a laugh and it quickly became something more than just a meeting.
As the tradition grew, so did its impact. What began in one team spread across the Midlands and beyond, with colleagues across FRP using it as a moment to connect, reflect, and build relationships outside of their day-to-day workload.
Then came 2020.
In the early days of the pandemic, when uncertainty and isolation were taking a toll on everyone, that sense of togetherness became more important than ever. “Team Ketchup” evolved into Wednesday Wave, a weekly check-in where we all took time out to simply talk, share how we were feeling, and look after each other’s mental health. It wasn’t about work. It was about wellbeing.
Local suppliers supported with snacks and treats, and every Wednesday became a reminder that we weren’t alone, even when we were miles apart.
And every morning at 9am, another tradition took shape: Joe Wicks PE in the office! Yes, even Nick, our MD, joined in. It became a daily release. a way to shake off the stress and start the day with energy and a smile.
Even through the toughest moments, FRP made the decision to support its team fully, with continued pay, flexibility, and empathy. The message was clear: we look after our people first.
Another treasured memory? Fish and Chip Fridays in Wisbech. With one of the nicest outdoor seating areas (and the driest weather in the UK!), the team gathered to eat, chat, and unwind. There were no agendas, just conversation, about weekend plans, family, films, and holidays.
These weren’t just fun moments. They were acts of care.
At FRP, our people have always been the heart of the business. Whether it’s through a breakfast catch-up, a group workout, or a sunny lunch outside, we believe time spent looking after each other is never wasted.
Here’s to 25 years of putting our people first, and many more to come.
